I took two guests along with me to the St Katharine Docks restaurant. First thing to say is that it’s in a great setting - where we were sat we could see the Tower of London, which is beautifully lit up at night and a great backdrop to a meal even for born and bred Londoners. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable throughout, great service.
We all had the antipasto starter and enjoyed it very much - good variety, quality and portion size. Guest 1 felt the bruschetta pomodoro was too soggy, but there were no other quibbles. I was personally very impressed, and it’s always great to find tapenade in an antipasto selection.
We weren’t quite as happy with the mains. Guest 1 had the Orata al Forno and whilst she thought the Sea Bream was cooked well, her potatoes and vegetables were on the cold side, a criticism Guest 2 also said was relevant to his strozzapretti pugliese, which he also felt was somewhat too sparing with the sauce. My quatro stagioni pizza was more successful, with an interesting variety of toppings.
We all enjoyed our desserts - Guest 1 had Bunet Piemontese and felt it was tasty and just the right amount, and Guest 2 enjoyed his pistachio gelato. I couldn’t have any of the tasting menu desserts, as they all contained nuts and I’m allergic, but the staff kindly substituted a pannacotta which was perfect in taste and texture.
We finished with teas and coffees, which made a pleasant end to the evening and warmed us up (especially Guest 2 after his ice cream!) ahead of the journey home on a very cold night.
